I've been living with Ari Lennox's album, 'Shea Butter Baby' for the past week and I can't help to feel that she is the sound for coolin' this summer! Now, if you have a problem with language maybe you should find a clean copy but you'll be missing half of the vibe
Ari's talent isn't limited to her vocabulary but she does use cuss words to color her songs. They fit today's sound (leave your stiff collar at the door) and express honest emotion. Lennox will remind some of a next level Erykah Badu. Her songs are about some coming of age stuff, like getting a new apartment or making love to your lover before leaving town.
The production courtesy of Dreamville (J. Cole's label) is rich and tight. When using samples, it's done sparingly and creatively. Many of the songs are linked by dialog that sets up the 'Shea Butter Baby' album.
