I witnessed one of the best shows that I've seen in a while tonight in DC. No, it wasn't Jill Scott at the Verizon Center, it was Step Afrika at the Atlas Theatre in North West Washington!
If you are a fan of Old School and New music, Dance, Singing and fraternity style Stepping you will LOVE Step Afrika running now through July 1st. I went to the Atlas expecting a cute show but found myself glued to the rhythms and energy that the drummers, dancers and human beat-box brought to the stage. When you go, and I advise that you do make sure you are ready to bring our energy too! The interactive DJ's on the sides of the stage will ask you to sing-a-long in spots and the louder you sing, the harder troupe will dance!
Step Afrika had a special scene dedicated to Go-Go and the late Chuck Brown. It was a nice touch that they had the Chuck Brown Foundation to assist those re-entering society. Also on hand was WAMU and WTOP, a clear sign that Step Afrika is starting to be noticed by the mainstream public, so I advise you to come see it while it's fresh!
I was so excited about the show that I missed the first half of the Miami Heat winning Lebron James' first NBA Championship. The only thing as hot as the Heat in Miami or DC is Step Afrika on H Street NE at the Atlas Theatre.
